DUO PLAST - an important employer in the Wartburg district

On Friday, 24.03.2023, we welcomed Mr. Christian Hirte (CDU), member of the Committee on the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection in the German Bundestag, Mr. Martin Henkel (CDU), member of the Thuringian State Parliament, as well as their employees Alexandra Martmer, Jürgen Fischer, Jana Mohamed (intern) and Dr. Martin Engelmann, Managing Director of the Industrieverband Kunststoffverpackung e.V., at our company site in Sünna.

The meeting began with a general presentation of DUO PLAST AG. In addition to the tour of the extrusion department and the impressive practical comparison of our stretch film with an alternative application made of paper, we were able to present DUO PLAST as an innovative and sustainable employer in the region.

The company site in Sünna has now been in existence for 20 years; the site in Lauterbach can look back on a 40-year success story. At our two modern production sites in Sünna (Thuringia) and Lauterbach (Hesse), we develop customized packaging solutions in line with our motto “YOUR SUCCESS IN OUR FILM!”, combining economy and ecology. With initiatives in the area of energy efficiency, the installation of PV systems at both company sites and the reduction of greenhouse gases, we are a pioneer and live sustainability.

With our DUO EARTH stretch films (sustainable stretch films with 30 % PCR), we achieve reliable and stable load unit protection made from high-quality, sustainable materials. On the other hand, every percent of raw material that we can replace with PCR conserves our resources and reduces the amount of waste. We can recycle the material again and again.

The joint meeting was also used to discuss the key topics of the circular economy for plastic packaging and the EU Packaging Regulation. Dr. Engelmann explained the pros and cons of the planned legal changes at European level and their impact on packaging manufacturers in a clear and technically sound manner.

We can look back on a successful and constructive exchange on the subject of plastic as a packaging material and valuable raw and recycling material, with regard to the situation for skilled workers and training and economic promotion on this day.
