Visit of Christian Hirte and Martin Henkel at the Sünna site
Earlier this week, we welcomed Christian Hirte, Member of the German Bundestag (CDU / CSU faction) and Martin Henkel, Member of the Thuringian Landtag for the CDU, to DUO PLAST in Sünna. We invited them to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the packaging industry in a small group.
Christian Hirte began his political career in the Wartburg district and is now a member of the Bundestag’s Committee for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection. Mr. Hirte actively advocates for the concerns of German industry. As the former Federal Government Commissioner for Eastern Germany, he is familiar with the particular challenges and potential of East German companies – and knows how important medium-sized companies are as the backbone of the economy.
Martin Henkel, member of the Thuringian parliament, is also deeply involved in regional economic policy. As a member of the CDU state list, he is significantly interested in strengthening the innovative power and competitiveness of Thuringian companies. Mr. Henkel has a close relationship with our company and always takes a pragmatic approach to actively supporting us.
During the meeting, Dr. Sven Bernhard, Detlef Kaase and Mieke Kieschnick tackled a number of key topics, including the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), planned investments and funding opportunities, and the long-term strategic direction of DUO PLAST. Particularly noteworthy was our discussion of possible investments at the site, which are primarily aimed at further minimizing our consumption of resources and reducing our carbon footprint.
In this open dialog, we collectively reviewed perspectives on the challenges of the PPWR and our opportunities as a pioneer in resource-efficient and low-emission packaging solutions. We were particularly pleased with our guests’ interest in our strategic plans and our vision of actively promoting a circular economy in the packaging industry. We are confident that such discussions will create new momentum and valuable partnerships for a more sustainable future.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Christian Hirte and Martin Henkel for their visit and the constructive discussions!
